What is the ideal temperature for storing seeds in a cold storage?

Seeds stored in cold storage have different storage temperatures due to differences in variety. Overall, there are three types of temperatures suitable for seed storage, as follows:

1.Storage temperature of short-term seed cold storage

Short term seed storage is used to preserve productive seeds, with a design temperature generally controlled at 15 ℃ -20 ℃ and a relative humidity of 50% -60%. It is recommended to use cloth bags, paper bags, and glass containers for packaging.

2. Storage temperature of mid-term seed cold storage

Medium term seed storage is used to store mobile seeds, with a design temperature generally controlled between 0 ℃ and 10 ℃ and a relative humidity of less than 60%. It is recommended to use airtight volumes such as metal boxes, glass containers, aluminum foil bags, and plastic composite film bags for packaging;

3. Long term seed cold storage temperature

The reference temperature for long-term storage of seeds internationally is -18 ℃ or below, and the seed moisture content is controlled at 5 ± 1%. When using a refrigerated warehouse for storage, the design temperature is -10 ℃~-20 ℃, and the relative temperature is not more than 60%. The packaging and mid-term storage packaging are the same and must not be breathable.
